The protest in Boyanovo is under the slogan: Boyanovo for Bulgarians; Refugees - out!
Several hundred people have demonstrated against government plans to accommodate migrats near the village of Boyanovo, Southern Bulgaria.
Officials intend on using the premises of the old barracks near the village to make room for arriving migrants, as the operated by the State Agency for Refugees have run out of free beds.
Around 500 people took part, according to the Bulgarian News Agency (BTA). Some of them arrived from nearby villages.
Anger started to mount among the locals earlier this week amid rumours that old apartment blocks formerly used by the military would become a new home to migrants.
Some 52 waggons will be used by authorities to set up the center, each accommodating six people.
The makeshift accommodation facility will operate under a regime of restricted movement and will be guarded by police around the clock.
According to the information available as of the moment, the center will not be inhabited by more than a few hundred people.
"I would underline that... there is speculation at the moment that 2000 people will be accommodated there, but it doesn't match the truth," Focus News Agency quotes Yambol region's Deputy Governor Dimitar Ivanov as saying.
