Some 50 illegally built structures in the Plovdiv district of Stolipinovo are to be demolished by 5 pm on Friday .

The operation for the removal of the illegal structures is taking place under the supervision of gendarmerie and police officers, according to reports of the Bulgarian National Radio (BNR).

The illegal sites include pavilions, small shops, hairdressers' and garages operating without permits, which are also non-compliant with a range of standards and for which the owners are not paying taxes.
Petar Petrov, Mayor of Plovdiv's Iztochen district, informed that the owners of the illegal structures had been warned about the operation.

The demolition of the illegally built structures will cost around BGN 20 000 which will be provided from the municipal budget.

The local administration has assured that it will provide alternative terrains to the traders and they will be able to take part in a tender for the lots. At the same time, the area currently occupied by the illegal structures will be used for green spaces and benches.

According to reports of the BGNES news agency, by the time the excavators arrived at the site, some 10 illegal structures had remained, while the others had been pulled down by the owners.
