US Ambassador Acclaims Bulgarian Wine

Bulgaria's Agriculture Minister, Miroslav Naydenov, met Tuesday with the US Ambassador to Sofia, James Warlick, who visited the Minister do discuss Bulgaria's farming.

During the meeting, Naydenov informed Warlick about the launch of the Bulgarian Food Safety Agency, the upcoming forestry reform, the possibilities of producing energy from bio sources and the quality of Bulgarian food.

The Ambassador praised the Minister for his efforts on food safety, on preserving Bulgarian forests, and on diversifying energy sources.

Warlick admitted the true reason for his visit was Bulgarian wine making, complimenting the country for producing some of the best wines in the world, which he, personally, enjoys daily.

The Ambassador revealed he owns a wine cellar and had produced 500 bottles of wine last year. He presented one of these bottles to the Minister as a gift.

Naydenov joked he does now have a cellar but returned the gesture with a bottle of Bulgarian wine and recommended that it must be tasted with some of the great Bulgarian cheeses.

The Minister further informed the samples for Foot-and-Mouth disease (FDM) taken in the Yambol district turned negative, and promised another round of tests, despite the fact the authorities have already dismissed FMD threats.
