The Bulgarian cabinet will provide funds to cover up to 25% of the expenses of "Lufthansa Technik Sofia" for staff training.

The decision to slate BGN 1.8 M for the company, whose facilities are located near the Sofia Airport, was made by the Council of Ministers Wednesday.

The partial compensation of the expenses is due to the fact Lufthansa Technik built a class A certified facility for repairs of Airbus and Boeing.

Lufthansa Technik Sofia, a joint venture between Germany's Lufthansa Technik and the Bulgarian Aviation Group, was launched over two years ago in Sofia.

Together with the Bulgarian Aviation Group, which owns 20% stake in the enterprise, Lufthansa Technik has invested more than BGN 50 M in the modernization of the maintenance facility and the training of the workers.

The Sofia facility employees 300 individuals, 280 of which are technical personnel, mainly Bulgarian engineers who have attended year-long training workshops in Bulgaria, Ireland, and Hungary.

Lufthansa Technik has four other similar facilities Schoenefeld Maintenance Centre in Berlin, Lufthansa Technik Malta, Shannon Airspace in Ireland, and Lufthansa Technik Budapest.
