A 14-year-old boy is the first registered swine flu - A(H1N1) case in Bulgaria's second largest city, Plovdiv.

The information was reported by the Plovdiv Regional Inspectorate for Preservation and Control of Public Health.

The teenager is a US citizen from Detroit, who has arrived on June 23 to visit his grandmother in Plovdiv. Three days later he developed swine flu symptoms - high fever, nausea, throat pains and cough.

The boy has been examined in Plovdiv while samples were sent to the lab in Sofia. The results confirmed Monday he is infected with the A(H1N1) virus.

The patient is reported to be in good condition and began immediate treatment with Tamiflu. The three people he had contact with - grandmother, uncle and aunt, are also being examined despite the lack of complaints and symptoms.
