The popular UK new wave band DepechРµ Рњode might perform in Bulgaria's city of Shumen in the spring of 2010.

The news was announced Tuesday by Shumen's Mayor, Krasimir Kostov.

Kostov said that negotiations were underway and the band's visit would be sponsored by the brewery company "Carlsberg - Bulgaria". The band will perform on the stage at "Studentski" park, the Mayor further informed.

In the mean time, the spokesperson of " Carlsberg - Bulgaria", Ralitsa Ilieva, cited by the Bulgarian information agency BGNES, said the company did not have any information about Depeche Mode traveling to Shumen, adding the brewery was the sponsor of the canceled Sofia concert.

Kostov said that the City Hall was also hoping to bring AC/DC and Uriah Heep to Shumen.

10 days ago, Bulgarian fans of Depeche Mode received the disheartening news of the irreversible cancellation of the planned concert in Sofia.

The band's manager announced a string of concerts will be axed after their efforts to reschedule them failed.

The musicians promised to include Sofia, Athens, Istanbul, Bucharest, Belgrade, Warsaw, Riga and Vilnius in their next tour.

The band issued May 14 a statement announcing that it had been a "severe bout of gastroenteritis" that had sent lead singer Dave Gahan to hospital.

While in hospital, further medical tests revealed a low-grade malignant tumor in Dave's bladder, which has since been successfully removed.
