Security Upped at Depeche Mode Election Day Show in Sofia

The local promoter has announced that adequate security measures have been taken for the famous UK electronic band Depeche Mode concert Sunday in Bulgarian capital Sofia.

Sunday Bulgarians are voting on crucial early general elections, which are taking place in a highly polarized atmosphere after street protests in February and a raging wiretapping scandal going on.

Concert promoter Sofa Music Enterprises came out with a special statement Sunday denouncing rumors that the Depeche Mode show might be used for staging planned riots.

"There will be reinforced security measures both during the concert itself, and during the entire election day around and in the Lokomotiv Stadium," said the promoter.

Doors at the Lokomotiv Stadium are opening at 5.30 pm, with opening act F.O.X. scheduled to appear around 8 pm, and headliners Depeche Mode - around 9 pm.

Polling stations across the country are closing at 8 pm, or later if there are lines of people wishing to vote.

Depeche Mode have embarked on a world tour to promote their latest album, "Delta Machine", which they released March 22.

Bulgarian capital Sofia is the fourth stop along the trek, which began May 4, and is set to continue througout Europe and on to the US, before returning to Europe in the fall.
