Bulgarian fans of the popular UK new wave band Depeche Mode received on Friday the disheartening news of the irreversible cancellation of the planned concert in Sofia.

The band's manager announced a string of concerts will be axed after their efforts to reschedule them, initially canceled due to singer Dave Gahan sickness, failed.

The musicians promised to include Sofia, Athens, Istanbul, Bucharest, Belgrade, Warsaw, Riga and Vilnius in their next tour.

Bulgaria fans will be refunded and can return their tickets to all TicketPro desks, organizers announced.

The band issued May 14 a statement announcing that it had been a "severe bout of gastroenteritis" that had sent lead singer Dave Gahan to hospital.

While in hospital, further medical tests revealed a low-grade malignant tumour in Dave's bladder, which has since been successfully removed.
