EU Members Vote at 2009 European Parliament Elections

The 2009 European Parliament Elections have started Thursday, and will continue until Sunday, May 7.

European Union's citizens from 27 member countries will elect 736 MEPs who will represent people's interests over the next five years.

Along with the election of new MEPs, a new European Commission will be assigned for the same period, the Bulgarian Information Agency (BTA) commented.

The voting process begins with elections in the UK and the Netherlands. Ireland will vote Friday.

Elections will be held Sunday in Latvia, Cyprus, Malta, and Slovakia.

In Italy and the Czech Republic the voting process will continue from Friday to Sunday.

In all the remaining 18 EU members the elections will take place on Sunday.
