The blood alcohol content of the driver of the bus that crashed near Bulgaria's Yambol Thursday and killed 16, was 0,029%.

The news was announced Thursday night by the Director of the Yambol Police Department, Stoyan Dragnev.

Dragnev said it was not clear whether the driver drank before the crash, which happened early Thrusday morning, or that the driver's alcohol content was the result of him drinking the previous night.

"I cannot assume that this person drank alcohol so early in the morning. The alcohol in his blood might also be from medicines. We will find out what exactly happened", Dragnev told Darik Radio.

The legal limit of blood alcohol content for driving in Bulgaria is 0,05%.

The bus driver is in shock. He has been arrested for 24 hours, and was brought to the Pirogov Hospital in Sofia Thursday night.

The exact cause of the bus crash that killed 16 persons near Yambol after crashing into a crowd of tourists is still unclear. One of the plausible causes is a technical problem with the old bus.
