Depeche Mode are expected to perform in Bulgaria in September, 2009, after their concert scheduled for May 18 was canceled.

The news was announced by the promoting company, Sofia Music Enterprises (SME), in an open letter to media.

SME have asked those who have tickets to be patient. If the concert date is confirmed, their tickets will not have to be changed.

However, if the concert is permanently canceled, everybody can return their tickets to all TicketPro desks.

The band issued May 14 a statement announcing that it had been a "severe bout of gastroenteritis" that had sent lead singer Dave Gahan to hospital.

Gahan's illness forced the band to cancel their concert in Athens, Greece.

While in hospital, further medical tests revealed a low-grade malignant tumour in Dave's bladder, which has since been successfully removed. At doctors' orders Dave Gahan must take a break until June 8, to ensure that he makes a full recovery.

On the site, Depeche Mode apologize to all their fans for this inconvenience and wish Dave a speedy recovery.
