Meteorologists from the National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology (NIMH) at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences have issued a yellow code warning for strong and potentially hazardous winds across all of Bulgaria on Wednesday.
During the night leading into Wednesday, rainfall is expected in some areas, mainly in the eastern parts of the country. Elsewhere, cloud cover will gradually decrease. Winds from the west-northwest will begin to ease but will remain light to moderate. Overnight minimum temperatures are forecast between 5°C and 10°C.
On Wednesday, often referred to as Great Wednesday, conditions will be dominated by a moderate to strong northwest wind bringing in colder air. Sunny periods will prevail, though temporary cloud increases are expected, especially over eastern regions, where scattered rain showers may occur. Daytime highs will generally range between 10°C and 15°C, with slightly higher values in the far southwestern areas.
In mountainous regions, mostly sunny conditions are expected, although cloud build-up will be more pronounced in eastern massifs, where snow is possible in places. A strong to stormy northwest wind will bring a noticeable drop in temperatures throughout the day. At around 1,200 meters, temperatures will reach approximately 6°C, while at 2,000 meters they are expected to fall to around minus 2°C.
Along the Black Sea coast, cloud cover will be more frequent and dense, with occasional rain showers. Winds from the north-northwest will be moderate to strong. Maximum coastal temperatures will range between 11°C and 14°C, while seawater temperatures will remain between 8°C and 11°C. Sea conditions are expected to reach 2–3 on the Beaufort scale.
