Acting Foreign Minister Nadezhda Neynski has stated categorically that Bulgaria will not take part in any military coalition aimed at reopening the Strait of Hormuz, citing the country’s limited capabilities. She emphasized that this position is clear and final, while noting that Sofia may still engage in diplomatic discussions on the issue.

Speaking in a television interview, Neynski addressed the diplomatic note sent by Iran regarding the presence of American transport aircraft at Sofia Airport, describing it not as a threat but rather as a standard warning within the context of heightened tensions. She explained that the use of Vasil Levski Airport is обусловено by technical requirements and added that there is no need to revise Bulgaria’s existing agreement with the United States, as the aircraft are strictly guarded and contribute to the airport’s security.

On the topic of the recently signed 10-year cooperation framework with Ukraine, the minister clarified that the document does not impose binding legal obligations on Bulgaria. Instead, it outlines opportunities for cooperation, development, and potential economic benefits. She stressed that any concrete decisions or actions related to Ukraine would require parliamentary approval.

Separately, the Foreign Ministry confirmed that Bulgaria will participate in an international discussion initiated by the United Kingdom, involving 35 countries, focused on restoring maritime traffic through the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz. The meeting, to be held via videoconference, will bring together European states such as France, Germany, Italy, and the Netherlands, along with countries from the Persian Gulf region.

The diplomatic effort comes amid ongoing disruptions to one of the world’s key energy routes, through which roughly 20 percent of global oil supplies pass. The initiative also follows recent calls by US President Donald Trump for allied nations to take a more active role in securing navigation in the area, as he заявил that the main objectives of the ongoing conflict are close to being achieved.
