On Thursday, April 9, weather conditions across Bulgaria are expected to remain unsettled, with variable cloud cover that will often be significant. Light rain is forecast in places, while precipitation will be absent in the far southwestern areas of the country.
In the morning hours, parts of the northern regions and mountainous areas may see rain mixed with snow, with temporary transitions to snowfall possible. Later in the day, precipitation will persist mainly in scattered areas, while overall activity gradually weakens.
Winds from the northwest will slowly ease, although they will remain moderate for most of the day. In the Danube Plain, the Upper Thracian Lowland, as well as along the Struma and Mesta river valleys, gusts may temporarily strengthen. Minimum temperatures are expected between 0° and 5°, with Sofia around 3°. Maximum values will range from 10° to 15°, with about 11° expected in the capital.
In mountainous regions, cloud cover will be more persistent, with snowfall occurring in many locations. Below roughly 1000 meters, precipitation will fall mainly as rain. Winds will remain moderate to strong from the northwest. Temperatures will reach around 2° at 1200 meters and drop to about minus 5° at 2000 meters.
Along the Black Sea coast, skies will remain mostly cloudy with widespread rain in many areas. A moderate north-northeasterly wind will prevail, gradually weakening in the afternoon and shifting to a south-southeasterly direction. Daytime temperatures will stay between 9° and 11°, roughly matching sea water values, while sea conditions will be calm to slight with waves around 2 points.
At a broader regional level, cold air continues to affect the Balkans from the northeast. Cloudiness will be widespread, with rain mainly in the northeastern parts of the peninsula and snowfall in higher elevations. With nighttime cooling, rain may turn into snow in lower-lying areas. Winds will ease slightly, while parts of the western coastline are expected to remain mostly sunny.
