Gazprom Increases Gas Deliveries to Europe by 12%

In the period January 1 –December 15, Gazprom increased gas deliveries to countries outside the Commonwealth of Independent States by 11.9%, compared to the same period last year, to 170 billion cubic metres, reported BTA.

In absolute terms, the increase is 18.1 billion cubic metres and is comparable to the quantity of gas exported by Gazprom in 2015 to large consumers like France and Poland put together, announced the company.

The absolute record for exports of Russian gas to countries outside CIS set in 2013 (162.7 billion cubic metres) has already been exceeded, stated the head of Gazprom Alexey Miller.

The announcement was made against the background of Moscow’s warning a week ago that problems with gas deliveries might be expected.

On December 10, RIA Novosti announced that Russia’s Energy Minister Alexander Novak has warned in a letter European consumers of Russian gas that Ukraine is creating additional risks to deliveries to Europe.

In the letter, Novak notes that the reason is the fine imposed by Ukraine’s anti-monopoly commission to the amount of USD 6.6 B for violating the “transit market” of the country.

Moscow’s concern is that Ukraine might keep as compensation some of the Russian gas transported through the country to the West and to the South.
