Iran's Ambassador to Bulgaria Abdollah Norouzi has said entrepreneurs from his country are eyeing the prospect to open an oil refinery in Bulgaria.

Norouzi has told Evropa TV station that the Iranian business in general is "interested" in investing into the Southeastern European nation's energy sector.

This includes oil and exports to the country, he has added.

"We have to see how much the Bulgarian side is ready for this. Having in mind that our gas network is quite developed and we have pipes leading to the border with Turkey, certain agreements have to be signed, and certain contracts for cooperation," Norouzi has made clear.

"Our gas is of a higher quality" than the one sold by Russia, the Ambassador has argued.

Bulgaria has been calling for a restart of the Nabucco gas pipeline whose idea was to supply Europe with gas from Iran, an idea completely abandoned as the Islamic Republic fell under the scope of international sanctions over its controversial nuclear program.
