First Greece-Bulgaria Gas Export 'Made Last Week'

A Greek company exported the first amounts of gas to Bulgaria on a test basis, a Greece-based news website says.

M&M gas did the transaction on July 01, shipping very small volumes, on "a very small discount to Bulgarian regulated price," Hellenic Shipping News reports, citing its own sources.

An interconnection agreement signed earlier between Bulgartransgaz and DESFA, the two countries' respective gas grid operators, allows for two-way gas flow starting from July.

The trade took place at the interconnection point Kulata-Siderokastro, the website also says.

M&M Gas in June also became the first independent gas company to make imports from Bulgaria, also in test mode.

The developments come as Bulgaria opened a modernized compressor station near the border with Greece, arguing a third of its gas needs might be met through deliveries across the border.

Additionally, Bulgaria and Greece moved to speed up the construction of an interconnector that will supply gas from the so-called Trans-Adriatic Pipeline (TAP).
