Bulgaria is second in the EU in terms of the number of projects submitted to the European portal for investment projects, as well as the number of inquiries to the European consulting center on investment issues, a Bulgarian MEP has said.

This is good news for Bulgaria, which indicates that the country has quality business ideas and a desire to attract investment for their implementation, MEP Eva Paunova (GERB/EPP Group) has commented on the data on implementation of the Investment Plan for Europe after its first year of operation.

"The investment plan, and in particular the European Fund for Strategic Investment (EFSI) proved to be a successful model of European funding based on investments and I see no reason why its operation should not be extended beyond the current three-year period," Paunova said during the medium-term review of the plan at the European Parliament in Strasbourg.

The Bulgarian MEP also called on the European Commission to transfer part of consultancy services on the investment plan to national and regional levels to ensure a more efficient matching of national and regional priorities with the EU’s structural and investment funds, according to a statement from GERB/EPP Group issued on Wednesday.
