Revenues from Short-term Accommodation Increased in Bulgaria in December 2015

According to the latest figures of the National Statistical Institute (NSI) released on Wednesday, the revenues generated from nights spent at places of short-term accommodation amounted to BGN 36.2 M in December last year.

This represented an increase of 2.9 % compared to the same month in the previous year.

In December, a total of 1969 accommodation establishments with more than ten beds – hotels, motels, camp sites, chalets and other places for short-term stay, were functioning across the country.

There were 57 000 rooms with 114 912 beds in these establishments.

Compared to the same month in 2014, the number of accommodation establishments decreased by 2.3 %, while the number of beds dropped by 1.2 %.

A total of 713 786 nights were spent at the places of accommodation, which represented a drop of 1.4 % compared to the previous December.

The greatest decrease in the number of nights spent was registered in places of accommodation possessing one or two stars.

A total of 70.5 % of all nights spent by foreigners in Bulgaria were registered at places awarded four or five stars.

The number of people staying at accommodation establishments increased by 4.2 % reaching 375 615.

A total of 76 % of people staying at accommodation establishments were Bulgarians, who spent 1.8 nights on average, while 90 298 foreigners were welcomed to the country, staying on average 2.3 nights.

There were increases in revenues generated by Bulgarians staying at short-term accommodation, while those earned by foreigners retained their level.
