Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borisov will discuss the candidates for a new education minister with the junior coalition partners from the Reformist Bloc (RB) on Friday.

This development comes after Borisov demanded the resignation of incumbent Education Minister Todor Tanev on Thursday.

As a reason for his resignation, the Bulgarian prime minister pointed to the systematic problems in the education sector, in particular the recently proposed controversial changes to the school curriculum which have not been subject to broad public discussion.

Tanev has not submitted his resignation yet, saying that he will not step down before he has had a meeting with Borisov.

The prime minister called on RB to propose a successor to Tanev capable of continuing the education reform.

Following a five-hour meeting between representatives of the parties constituting RB on Thursday evening, the coalition partners have not yet announced their nomination.
