Flight and hotel search engine Skyscanner has inaugurated an office in Bulgaria's capital Sofia, Capital daily says.

The Edinburgh-based company has been working with Bulgarian staff since October. The two offices will now seek to develop different features of its services, with the Bulgarian one focused on solutions for business consumers - the team has already delivered one to tech giant Microsoft.

"I am very proud of the fact that Bulgaria is not just an outsourcing destination, but products with high added value are also being developed here," Filip Filipov, who heads the unit, is quoted as saying.

Skyscanner's revenues topped GBP 93 M in 2014, 42% up from 2013. The startup unicorn was founded in 2001 and is now offering services in 30 languages, with some 700 employees working around the globe. It is often used by people who want to compare flights, hotel and car hire.

As of January 12 the Bulgarian unit has 27 employees, and the company is seeking to hire as many.
