The Bulgarian Red Cross started on Wednesday the annual distribution of food products to the most deprived citizens.

Until January 29 more than 255 000 people will be supplied with food products of first need.

The material help is part of the Food and/or Basic Material Assistance Operational Programme under the implementation of the Fund for European Aid to the Most Deprived (FEAD).

Each package consists of 13.6 kilogrammes of food products, namely 5 kg of flour, 3 kg of lentil, 3 kg of spaghetti, 1.6 kg of compote and 1 kg of jam.

Apart from the people provided with assistance in the 2014-2015 heating season, persons or families who have suffered natural disasters since 2012 are also eligible to receive aid.

The Bulgarian Red Cross has opened 311 stations for distribution of the supplies located in 22 Bulgarian regional centers: Blagoevgrad, Burgas, Varna, Vidin, Vratsa, Gabrovo, Dobrich, Kardzhali, Kyustendil, Lovech, Montana, Pazardzhik, Pernik, Plovdiv, Razgrad, Ruse, Silistra, Smolyan, Stara Zagora, Targovishte, Shumen and Yambol.

Individuals will receive the packages only after a check of their identity document and a signature.

The operational programme is managed by the Bulgarian Social Assistance Agency and is implemented with the cooperation of local authorities.

In Sofia the distribution of the individual packages with food products will begin on January 11.
