"I am utterly convinced that the governments in both Bulgaria and Romania are just as corrupt as in Brussels, Berlin and Paris. The idea that Bulgarians and Romanians are corrupt while the others are [innocent] is just a myth. But they are lashing out at us because this is the cheapest, the easiest, our countries could show the least amount of resistance. And dissatisfaction is shown not so much with us as with th entire enlargement process in Europe. In this sense, this reform was demanded by us because we were told: "Do some kind of reform!" The Romanians simulate in a more radical way by arresting some people and accusing them. But [in Bulgaria] to arrest Volen Siderov [a nationalist leader] is easy, because he is weak... Bulgaria needs much more a reform in medicine."
