Terminal 1 of the airport in the Bulgarian capital is again functioning as normal after it remained closed for hours on Tuesday due to a false bomb threat.

The regular flights from Madrid and London landed shortly before 2 a.m. EET on Wednesday, private NOVA TV informs.

During a regular check on Tuesday, police dogs reacted positively to a suspected explosive device in a white minibus bearing Belgian licence plates, which had been parked outside terminal 1.

Airport officials initially confirmed the presence of a bomb in the vehicle, but later the interior ministry dismissed the information.

The terminal was evacuated, the checks continued for hours and the flights were redirected to terminal 2.

Police carried out a controlled explosion of one of the bags inside the minibus.

Officials advise people about to travel from the terminal to follow the latest information available at the website of the airport.
