EU Agriculture Commissioner Pays Visit to Bulgaria

European Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development Phil Hogan will pay a visit to Bulgaria on Friday at the invitation of Agriculture Minister Desislava Taneva.

Apart from meeting with Taneva, Hogan will also hold talks with Bulgarian President Rosen Plevneliev, Prime Minister Boyko Borisov as well as MPs from the parliamentary Agriculture and Foods Committee.

The EU Agricultre Commissioner will also participate in the “European debates” initiative of Deputy Prime Minister Meglena Kuneva.

Hogan will take part in the discussion “Priorities of the European Commission and the key role of agriculture and development of rural areas in creating jobs and investments”.

The EU Commissioner will also attend the official opening of the pilot phase of a project of the Initiative for Social Empowerment.

The aim of the project is to help vulnerable communities, mainly women and youth, to overcome poverty through technologies, education and entrepreneurship in the field of production of herbal products.

Hogan and Taneva will attend the opening of a meat processing factory and warehouse of the company Vitoro, which have been constructed with funding under the Rural Development Programme.

This week, the EU Agriculture Commissioner announced that EUR 7.5 B will be invested in Bulgarian agriculture in the next six-seven years, daily Dnevnik reports.

Hogan said that Bulgaria's level of implementation of the programmes under the previous programming period has been satisfactory.
