Deputy Commander of NATO Joint Force Command Naples Visits Bulgaria

Bulgaria’s participation in the implementation of NATO assurance measures was a key topic of discussion during the visit of Lieutenant General D. Michael Day, Deputy Commander of the NATO Joint Force Command Naples (JFCNP), to Bulgaria.

During the visit General Day met with Vice Admiral Rumen Nikolov, Chief of Defense Staff of Bulgaria, Deputy Defense Minister Dimitar Kyumyurdzhiev, and Brigadier General Zlatko Zlatev, acting Commander of Bulgaria's Joint Forces Command, according to a media statement of the Defense Ministry.

General Day’s meetings in Bulgaria also focused on Bulgaria’s contribution to guaranteeing security in the region, as well as on opportunities for holding joint trainings and military exercises.

Genral Day visited the Sofia-based Rakovski Defence and Staff College and met with representatives of the Joint Logistics Support Group (JLSG) of exercise TRIDENT JOUST 15.

The Joint Logistic Support Group moves to Bulgaria for the first time and trains on a large scale, in a complex operational environment to check the capacity of JLSG command to deploy and operate as a logistic support command at theater of operations level.

TRIDENT JOUST 15 is held on June 17-28, 2015 in Bulgaria and Romania under the leadership of Admiral Mark Ferguson, Commander of JFC Naples.

According to Admiral Mark Ferguson, the exercise is designed to test the abilities of Joint Force Command Naples to lead a collective defense operation for the Alliance.

Twenty-five NATO nations and more than 1000 personnel is taking part in exercise TRIDENT JOUST 15.

The main part of the exercise is held at the Cincu shooting range, Brasov County.

The JLSG, which comprises up to 100 troops, including 10 Bulgarian troops, uses the training base of the Sofia-based Rakovski Defence and Staff College.
