Bulgarian Prime Minister Boiko Borisov met with the President Azerbaijan Ilham Aliev Friday.

During the meeting held at the Presidential palace in the capital Baku, Borisov and Aliev discussed the opportunities for transportation and delivery of natural gas from Azerbaijan to Bulgaria.

‘’Bulgarian government has undertaken absolutely every possible measure for the faster realization of the project for the gas interconnection with Greece and will guarantee the quality of execution of the project,’’ stated Borisov as quoted by the government’s press office. ‘’The interconnector will be with a rough capacity of 25-30 B m3 and this in its turn will allow Bulgaria to turn into a gas hub for the rest of Europe.’’

Borisov further expressed his hope that Azerbaijan will also consider increasing the planned capacities that would be passing through Bulgaria.

The two government representatives also discussed the project financed by the Azerbaijanian foundation on historical and cultural heritage for providing funding for the restoration of the ‘’Trapezitsa’’ fortress near Veliko Tarnovo. The sum planned is EUR 1,2 M and will be used for the restoration of the three churches located on top of the hill, the alleys and the entire fortress. Furthermore, the infrastructure leading to the historical monument will also be renovated.
