73% of Bulgaria's Bathing Waters Were of Excellent Quality in 2014

In Bulgaria, 69 out of a total of 94 bathing waters or 73.4 % were deemed as being of excellent quality in 2014.

This is shown by the 2014 report on the bathing water quality in Europe, which was issued by the European Environment Agency (EEA) on Wednesday.

The report concludes that bathing waters in Europe were of high quality, with 95 % of the sites satisfying minimum water quality standards, which are set out in EU legislation, such as the Bathing Water Directive.

More than 83 % of the sites fulfilled the stricter standards of excellent bathing water quality, with only less than 2 % being of poor bathing water quality.

The report examined the water quality at more than 21 000 sites in the EU, Albania and Switzerland during the 2014 bathing season.

In three member states - Cyprus, Luxembourg and Malta all bathing waters were deemed as being of excellent status.

In Bulgaria, 91 out of 94 sites or 96.8 % were designated as being of sufficient quality, while 3 (3 %) were of poor quality.

When looking at the coastal bathing waters, 65 out of 90 sites or 72.2 % were of excellent quality, 87 or 96.7 % were of sufficient quality, while 3 (3.3 %) were of poor quality

As regards, the inland bathing waters all four sites, which were examined in Bulgaria, were of excellent quality.
