Air pollution in Sofia with fine dust particles has been detected over the past one year.

The official statement was made in a report prepared by the monitoring department to the State Environmental Agency, the Bulgarian National radio reported.

There currently are 50 stations on air control across the country, with six in the capital Sofia.

There have been places in Bulgaria that have even registered a pollution increase of over 100 times, albeit the maximum prescribed level is 35 times, as stated by Emilia Stoycheva, Director of the Air Monitoring Directorate.

''Air pollution levels are registering increased levels at all stations across Sofia, apart from the one at Kopitoto,'' Stoycheva explained. '' The average annual concentration has increased by 40 micro grams per cubic meter.''
