Bulgaria is to extradite Thursday a French citizen suspected of having been in close contact with the Kouachi brothers, who killed 12 people at the Paris Office of Charlie Hebdo weekly.

Fritz-Joly Joachin, a French citizen of Haitian origin, was detained in Bulgaria on January 1 while trying to cross into Turkey at the Kapitan Andreevo checkpoint with his three-year-old child. The mother of his son then warned Joachin was trying to bring him to Syria to have him trained by jihadis.

Earlier in January, a regional court at the city of Haskovo decided to grant the European Arrest Warrant issued by a Paris court against him. Joachin himself had said he was not guilty and that he would like to return to France.

French prosecutors have charged him with participation in an organized crime group whose aim was the organization of terrorist acts.

On Wednesday evening Joachin was transported from Haskovo to the capital Sofia in a move coordinated with French authorities, the Bulgarian National Radio reports.
