Study Shows Bulgarians Are True Europeans – BAS

Bulgarians are at the exact middle when their appearance is compared to that of other Europeans, shows a recent study of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (BAS).

The study, which traces the changes Bulgarians have undergone in the past decades, shows that they fall between the taller Scandinavians and the shorter Italians and French, private bTV station reports.

The average height of Bulgarian women is 158 centimetres and their average weight is 65 kilogrammes.

The average height of Bulgarian men is 171 centimetres and their average weight is 77 kilogrammes.

Despite the tendency to gain weight, Bulgarians are still within the norms.

The inhabitants of Sofia and Montana weigh the most and the citizens of the capital are two centimetres taller on average.

The director of the Anthropology Institute at BAS Yordan Yordanov concludes that the appearance of the contemporary Bulgarian is identical to that of the other Europeans.

Over 80 % of Bulgarians are dark-haired and dark-eyed and only 7 % are naturally blond with blue eyes.

The most rare in Bulgaria is the combination between dark hair and bright eyes.

The Bulgarian scientists will be able to determine what changes Bulgarians have undergone at the beginning of the 21^st century in 2050.
