More than 4600 people were killed since the beginning of the conflict in eastern Ukraine this spring, said the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA).

According to the OCHA report, released on Friday, as of December 7 at least 4634 people were killed and 10 243 were wounded.

Around 5.2 million people still live in the conflict area. More than 542 000 were internally displaced and more than 567 000 escaped to neighbouring countries.

The report also notes that the ceasefire, declared by Ukraine's President Petro Poroshenko on December 9 as a “Day of Silence”, has been observed by both sides and no new casualties have been reported.
