Bulgaria would be split into nine tourist regions, according to the project of the National Centre For Territorial Development, reports Dnevnik.bg.

The concept for zoning was ordered by the Economy Ministry and is included in the new Tourism Act, which came into effect in March. The idea is to set up tourist areas, which could form regional tourist products and common marketing and advertising campaigns.

The projected zones are Danube, Stara Planina, Rose Valley, Thrace, Rhodopes, Rila and Pirin, Sofia, Burgas (South Black Sea Coast) and Varna (North Black Sea Coast).

For each region experts offer one main and six secondary tourist activities. The main attraction in the Danube zone would be cultural and boat cruise tourism, the Rose Valley will offer health and cultural tourism, Stara Planina – mountain and eco tourism and Thrace – cultural and wine tourism.

The Rhodopes would specialise in mountain and village tourism, Rila and Pirin – mountain and religious tourism, Sofia – business and cultural tourism, the  North Black Sea Coast – sea and sport tourism and the South Black Sea Coast.
