The "anti-terrorist" operation of Ukrainian security forces in the eastern town of Slaviansk has left at least one dead and several injured.
A state security officer was killed in Sunday's operation aimed at ousting pro-Russian separatists from the police headquarters in Slaviansk, according to reports of the BBC News.
Interfax informed that the clashes had left nine injured.
Acting Interior Minister Arsen Avakov announced that there were casualties and injured people "on both sides."
The clashes erupted as Ukrainian special forces moved to clear the building where some 20 pro-Russian gunmen dressed in camouflage had seized control on Saturday.
The police stations and government buildings in a number of towns in eastern Ukraine, including Kramatorsk and Druzhkovka, have been taken over by armed men since Saturday.
The regional capital Donetsk has been the scene of a week-long occupation of its main administrative building as protesters demand a referendum on becoming part of Russia.
