Russian law enforcement agencies have detained more than 700 persons in a special operation launched after the two deadly bombing attacks in the city of Volgograd.

The two attacks, presumably carried out by suicide bombers have claimed 34 lives, with dozens left seriously injured.

Sunday, Volgograd's train station was bombed, and hours after, on Monday, an explosion went off in a crowded public trolleybus.

Thursday Interfax reports that in the special operation codenamed Vikhr-Anti-terror (Whirlwhind-Antiterror), 6000 sites have been thoroughly searched by officers aided by trained dogs.

Among the more than 700 arrested within the Volgograd region, there are 12 wanted criminals and 70 crime suspects.
