The ongoing US Government shutdown may be nearing its end as the Senate is closing in on a budget deal.
Both Senate leaders Harry Reid (Democrats) and Mitch McConnell (Republicans) expressed optimism on Monday.
“We’ve made tremendous progress. Everyone just needs to be patient. Perhaps tomorrow will be a bright day”, said Reid, cited by CNN.
“We’ve had an opportunity over the last couple of days to have some very constructive exchanges of views about how to move forward. Those discussions continue and I share his (Reid’s) optimism”, said McConnell.
President Barack Obama postponed a meeting with Congressional leaders on Monday to allow them more time to reach a solution.
It is the 14th consecutive day of the government shutdown and just days before the US is expected to reach its borrowing limit. Failure to raise the debt limit would likely make waves in US and world economies.
