Bulgarian Socialists Here to Stay at least until May 2014

The earliest possible general elections in Bulgaria might happen after the elections for European Parliament in May 2014, according to the Speaker of the Parliament, Mihail Mikov.

Speaking Monday before TV7, Mikov, who is from the Bulgarian Socialist Party, BSP, on whose mandate the current Cabinet of Prime Minister Plamen Oresharski was formed, explained the vote for EP would show if there is indeed need of changing the rule of the country.

He accused the opposition of using the protests for their own political gains on grounds the rallies have lasted for "an unusually long time" and there were blockades staged by people bused to the Parliament.

"Meanwhile, the lawmakers keep working despite the hardship of the blockades and achieved a lot in just one week after returning from their summer break. The government needs stability. We must see how the revised budget will work. How many snap elections should be held before the protesters get a result that is satisfactory for them?" stated Mikov.

Meanwhile, the said protesters are gearing up for the 88th consecutive antigovernment rally Monday evening.

They will stage a mock "Communist parade" ridiculing the current Socialist-led government.

The occasion is the emblematic date of September 9, considered both the date of Bulgaria's anti-fascist uprising in 1944, and the beginning of the Communist regime.
