Bulgaria keeps loosing traditionally strong markets for export of food over stricter control and decreasing competitiveness of local companies.

Speaking Sunday before bTV, Delina Kioseva, expert with the Economy Ministry, explained the aggressive Chinese economy with much larger production and much lower prices has been detrimental to Bulgarian food exports.

The largest increase in sales abroad is registered for chocolate, cooking oil, eggs, and different meats, but the trend of losing presence on traditional markets, including Russia, is ongoing.

"We are still on the Russian market, but the shrinking, particularly in meat and dairy products, is noticeable," Kioseva said.

She added Bulgaria's honey exports to Europe were also down due to rogue traders.

According to the Economy Ministry, exports of Bulgarian food and beverages have increased more than 4 times in the last 10 years. Trade turnover in the EU and with third countries amounted to nearly EUR 1 B.
