Bulgarians have gathered to stage an anti-government evening protest in the capital Sofia for the 46th day in a row.

Over 1000 protesters have braved the extreme heat in Sofia, gathering at the Nezavisimost (Independence) square to chant “Resignation!” and “Mafia!”

The protesters are expected to head towards Parliament, as they did in previous days.

Protesters have demanded that the Socialist-led government resign immediately over a string of controversial appointments and wider concerns about corruption.

The Bulgarian  Socialist Party once again declared on Saturday that the government does not intend to resign.
