The Mayor of Sofia, Yordanka Fandakova, has sent to the Sofia City Prosecutor's Office the requested written statement on allegations that the anti-government protest rally had prevented an ambulance from accessing a main boulevard.

The City Hall's statement explains that since June 14, 2013, the municipal administration had been receiving from the Sofia Directorate of the Interior Ministry, SDVR, information about spontaneous protest rallies organized on social networks.

In acting in connection with the information, the Mayor had issued three orders assigning SDVR with the task to use their authority to not allow disorderly conduct and crime on the territory of Sofia city in the conditions of events connected with the gathering of large crowds of people.

The orders pertain to any situation threatening the life and health of citizens and are effective until the conclusion of the protests.

Currently, law enforcement in Sofia with the assistance of the municipal administration are carrying out all necessary actions for the above, according to the statement.

In following the instructions of the Sofia City Prosecutor's Office, Fandakova has issued a new directive Friday ordering participants in the rallies to obey the Traffic Act and secure immediate and unobstructed access of ambulances, fire trucks, and Civil Defense vehicles.

According to the prosecution, the ambulance heading on Tsarigradsko Shosse boulevard to the scene of the horrific Wednesday evening crash in which a taxi cab ram into a group of people standing at a bus stop, has been delayed by 12 minutes because it did not have free access due to the rally and was forced to make a detour.

The Sofia Prosecutors have started legal proceedings against an unknown perpetrator.

Both the emergency medical teams and the demonstrators deny the allegations.
