The Sofia City Prosecutor's Office, SGP, is not going to question Bulgarian caretaker Prime Minister, Marin Raykov, in connection with the 350 000 illegal ballots seized from a printing house in the town of Kostinbrod.

The official statement came on the heels of information published in the Pressa (Press) daily that Raykov will be interrogated in the case.

On Monday, the SGP spokesperson, Rumyana Arnaudova, told the online news agency Dnevnik she could not confirm or firmly reject the above information on grounds it would hurdle the probe.

The BTA news agency, also on Monday afternoon, quoted its own undisclosed sources from the Prosecutor's Office in saying there was no planned interrogation of Raykov.

SGP informs Tuesday that there was no planned interrogation of the caretaker Prime Minister, explaining they were issuing the official statement because of claims circulating in the media.

The Sofia Prosecution further clarifies that only State servants from the Council of Ministries administration were and are questioned in the case.

It has emerged that the latter include the Council of Ministries Head Secretary, Rosen Zhelyazkov, and another employee – Ivo Tsonkov, but this information is yet to be officially confirmed.

According to Capital daily, the contract in the public tender for the printing of ballots has been signed by Zhelyazkov, while Tsonkov and his supervisor, Veska Yaneva, were responsible for the control.

The caretaker Cabinet was in charge of the organization of the May 12 early general elections and was the one assigning the ballot printing public contract.

Last Wednesday, Raykov commented he would interfere if the pre-trial proceedings uncover violations and government officials can be held liable.
