A total of 25 Bulgarians were arrested on Tuesday in the capital Sofia, as thousands gathered for the latest in the series of anti-government protests in the country.

Fourteen people were injured, according to the Interior Ministry.

Even though several youngsters provoked clashes with police near Sofia's Eagle Bridge intersection, the rally was predominantly peaceful.

The series of mass protests in Sofia and all other major Bulgarian cities was initially triggered by the shockingly high electricity bills in EU's poorest member state. However, many protesters have also demanded the resignation of the center-right GERB government.

Tuesday saw protest rallies in Blagoevgrad, Burgas, Varna, Veliko Tarnovo and a number of other Bulgarian cities and towns.

A protest against the controversial approval for the expansion of the Bansko ski zone also took place in Sofia on Tuesday.
