Bulgarian Flag to Fly on South Pole for 1st Time

Antarctic researcher Prof. Hristo Pimpirev is expected to fly for the first time the Bulgarian flag at the South Pole on Monday.

Pimpirev is part of an Antarctic expedition set for the pole to honor the centennery its first conquest by Roald Amundsen and Robert Scott.

Sunday Pimpirev told bTV that the expedition has reached the Union Glacier base and is expected to arrive at the South Pole Monday, weather conditions permitting.

Day temperatures in the area, which is currently under the polar summer season, is around -30 degrees Centigrade.
