Bulgaria's government has formally condemned Friday's bloody terrorist attack in the Lebanese capital Beirut.

"Bulgaria condemns the terrorist attack in Beirut, in which three people died and more than 90 were injured. We express our sympathy to the relatives of the dead and to the injured, and our solidarity with the Lebanese people in their efforts to remain united and to maintain peace in the country," Bulgarian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Vesela Cherneva declared Saturday.

"The bombing is a crude act of violence and abuse against the stability of Lebanon and the region. We urge the Lebanese authorities and the citizens of Lebanon not to succumb to provocations and to continue their efforts to successfully conducting a national dialogue and to preserving the peace and stability of the Lebanese Republic," she added.

More than 90 people were killed or injured in the massive car bomb blast in Ashrafiya, a predominantly Christian district in East Beirut, on Friday.

Brig. Gen. Wissam al-Hassan, the intelligence chief of Lebanon's Internal Security Forces, was among those killed, leading to conjectures that he might have been the primary target of the attack for no terrorist group has claimed responsibility.
