The number of point of sale (POS) terminals at Bulgarian state administrative bodies has increased from 30 in 2011 to 268 by September 2012, according to data of Borika -Bankservice AD as cited by the Bulgarian Industrial Association (BIA).

Payment via POS terminals allows taxpayers to avoid bank transfer fees when paying dues to state bodies.

Natural and legal entities transferred a total of BGN 4 M via POS terminals in September 2012 only, and the average sum was BGN 120.

The BIA reminds that before the introduction of POS devices there were cases when the bank transfer fee was higher than the sum that was paid to the administrative body.

The proposal to install POS terminals at state institutions came after the ban on cash payments of sums of over BGN 15 000 approved by the government in early 2011.
