Israeli tourists have always liked Bulgaria, according to Orlin Mandov, newly appointed Honorary Consul of Israel in Burgas.

Mandov told the Focus news agency that he hoped security concerns among Israeli tourists would gradually decrease in the aftermath of last Wednesday's deadly terror attack in the Black Sea resort city.

Reservations already made by Israeli tourists are no longer being canceled, he said. However, there has been a decrease in new reservations.

Mandov revealed that he expected to be appointed as Honorary Consul.

"I expected it, but after the terror attack tragedy it leaves a bitter taste in my mouth. However, I view it as recognition for all I have done for Israeli-Bulgarian relations over the years," he commented on his appointment.

Orlin Mandov has long-time experience working with Israeli tourist companies.

The opening of Israel's honorary consulate in Burgas was announced Tuesday by Burgas Mayor Dimitar Nikolov at a memorial ceremony for the victims of last week's terrorist attack in which five Israeli tourists were killed.
