Sofia City Hall Launches Spring Cleaning Campaign

The Sofia City Hall is launching Monday the traditional campaign for the spring cleaning of the Bulgarian capital.

The campaign is to conclude on April 27. The official start was given at 12 pm in the in city's central park "Borisova Gradina." There is a tent erected in the park, near the "Ariana" lake, where people wishing to join the campaign can receive free gloves and trash bags.

20 businesses have confirmed their participation with providing equipment for the removal of waste piled in violation of the ordinance all over the city. The cleaning includes all spaces between buildings, parking lots and other public areas, day care centers, play grounds and sports fields.

Large waste such as unneeded furniture and appliances will be removed free of charge by the City Hall during the campaign. They must be placed outside, near the dumpsters. Removal of branches, bushes and trees, however, requires a special permit.
