Bulgaria's President-elect Named 'Politician of 2011'

President-elect and former Regional Minister, Rosen Plevneliev, has been declared Bulgaria's "Politician of the Year" 2011 in a traditional media poll.

The poll was held by Darik Radio and its website dariknews.bg for the 16th consecutive year, where listeners and readers selected also the "Event of the Year."

In the 2011 ranking, the first five spots for "Politician of the Year" were taken by two men and three women. Plevneliev is followed by former EU Commissioner and independent presidential candidate, Meglena Kuneva, former Culture Minister, left-wing candidate for vice presidents and popular actor Stefan Danailov, Bulgaria's EU Commissioner Kristalina Georgieva, and Sofia Mayor, Yordanka Fandakova.

A total of 10 695 cast their vote, with 4 069 listing Plevneliev as their top choice.

Right-wing leader and former Prime Minister, Ivan Kostov, current Prime Minister, Boyko Borisov, and outgoing President, Georgi Parvanov, are all three-time holders of the title.

The crisis in Europe had been selected as "The Event of the Year." 4 198 people have voted in this ranking and 2 064 votes went for the Eurozone crisis.
