Notorious international terrorist Carlos the Jackal was sentenced to life in prison for the second time in a trial that took place in Paris.

Last month, the terrorist faced charges that he masterminded four bombings in France in 1982 and 1983 that killed 11 people and injured more than 140.

The four attacks were seen as part of a private war Carlos waged against France to free two comrades, including his future wife, who were arrested in Paris while planning to attack the Kuwaiti embassy.

Late on Thursday, the French judge ruled that the 62-year old Venezuelan must serve at least 18 years of the life sentence.

Carlos the Jackal's lawyer, Isabelle Coutant-Peyre, described the verdict as a "scandal" and declared he would appeal, The Telegraph informs.

Carlos the Jackal, whose real name is Ilich Ramirez Sancez, is already serving a life sentence in a French prison for a triple murder in 1975.

It was recently confirmed that Carlos the Jackal was among the most prominent international terrorists who entered Bulgaria prior to 1991.
