Four international trains have been stranded for several hours in Bulgaria as a result of the general strike of the Bulgarian railway workers, which started on Thursday, November 24.

The four international train linking Bulgaria to Serbia, Romania, Turkey, Russia, and Austria have been affected by the strike as the syndicates in charge of the protests refused to let them through regardless of the pleas of the management of the highly troubled Bulgarian State Railways BDZ.

Thus, the Belgrade-Sofia train has been stopped at the Voluyak train station, west of Sofia.

The Moscow-Sofia train has gotten stranded at the town of Roman northeast of Sofia.

The Istanbul-Sofia train has been left waiting the strike off in Plovdiv, while the Bucharest-Istanbul train has been stranded at Stara Zagora.

The Sofia-Belgrade-Vienna train has not departed as scheduled from Sofia.

The Bulgarian railway workers are set to strike every day from 8 am till 4 pm until they resolve their differences with the government.

The international and local railway routes are served after the "regular" strike hours, which means at least several hours of delay for each of the international trains in question.

Bulgaria's freight trains have hardly been affected by the strike since it is primarily the BDZ Passenger Service personnel who are on strike.
